Katolen Yardley is a Member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists and professional member of the American Herbalists Guild. She practices as a Manual Osteopathic Practitioner, holding a degree of Doctor of Osteopathy (EU) and offers Herbal Medicine consultations with clients at her Vancouver and Port Moody offices and internationally via online consultations.
Katolen has been running a student clinic (both online and in person) and a herbal mentorship program since 2008. Apprenticeship training assists in preparing advanced students to become herbalists at the professional level through observation and hands-on practice in a clinic setting. Katolen has mentored students from Wild Rose College, Dominion Herbal College, Heartwood Herbal Medicine (UK), Betonica (UK) as well as mentored practitioners for professional membership in the American Herbalist Guild (US) and Herbal Associations within Canada and the UK. In addition, Katolen offers deep dives into Physical Assessment skills for herbalists- providing students tools for pattern recognition – through in-person clinical trainings in Vancouver BC and Vancouver Island.
Katolen has been in the holistic health field since 1993 with her primary Herbal Medicine education completed from the School of Phytotherapy (UK) before going on to complete her Doctorate degree in Osteopathy (Spain). With over 25 years in private practice and consulting expertise in the field of herbal medicine and holistic health, Katolen has dedicated much of her career to improving the health and wellbeing of her clients while actively contributing to the field of herbal medicine within Canada. In addition to caring for her clients and teaching, Katolen has spent much of her life in public service. Katolen was the President of the Canadian Council of Herbalist Associations from (2017- 2023) actively engaging with the Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate on matters related to professional herbalists and continued accessibility to herbal products. She served as President of the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for 3 terms, from 2013-2019 and was honored by the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for her outstanding contribution during her time as President.
In addition to caring for her clients and teaching, Katolen has spent much of her life in public service. Katolen is the past President of the Canadian Council of Herbalist Associations (2017- 2023). She served as President of the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for 3 terms, from 2013-2019 and was honored by the British Columbia Herbalist’s Association for outstanding contribution during her time as President.
Katolen is the author of the book “The Good Living Guide to Natural and Herbal Remedies” (2016), available on Amazon. She has written and co authored textbooks on natural and herbal remedies including “The History of Herbal Medicine Textbook” through the Wild Rose College. She was faculty in the Botanical Medicine Department at Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine from 2008-2023; instructed anatomy and physiology and was a clinic supervisor in the Clinical Herbal Therapy program, at Dominion Herbal College from 2010-2023. She served on the Steering Committee for Langara College in their Complimentary health program for Attention Deficit Disorders and instructed for the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Resiliency Program. For 17 years, Katolen appeared monthly on Global Television Morning News, offering herbal information to the public in a Canadian wide syndicated program. Katolen offers hands on medicine making classes, herb walks and periodic public talks at the University of British Columbia Sustainable Farm.
